QUALITY RATING SYSTEM
Quality Rating Improvement System (QRIS)
Illinois is one of 13 states to win the federal Race to the Top- Early Learning Challenge grant, Illinois has created a new Quality Rating & Improvement System (QRIS) inclusive of all early learning and development programs. The Quality Counts QRIS name is ExceleRate Illinois. Along with the new name, ExceleRate Illinois has new requirements, information and resources for parents. The ExceleRate Illinois system is geared towards what is best for the child.
The purpose of the QRIS is to:
- Provide a consistent definition of what constitutes high quality early childhood care and education that is applicable across a wide range of programs and settings;
- Provide useful information to parents who are choosing among early childhood education and care programs/providers;
- Provide pathways and support for continuous program improvement for Early Learning and Development programs/providers; and
- Provide and accountability framework for programs receiving public funding for Early Learning and Development services. Current QRS Highlights
